The heart and the soul of house Marica is the Mavrič Family – known locally as Belica. Our family's story has been written across generations among vineyards, traditional home-cooked meals, and welcoming doors for guests.
Soul of the house
Tourism has a long-standing tradition in our family. In the early 1990s, we opened the Belica estate in Medana and soon after began a comprehensive renovation of the guesthouse. During this period, we built a wine cellar, a restaurant, rooms, a conference hall, place to cure meats, and finally an outdoor terrace with a swimming pool.
A new generation begins a new chapter. We expanded our tourist activities from Medana to Šmartno. In this charming medieval village, surrounded by walls and towers, we renovated centuries-old farmhouses, where in 2010 we opened a restaurant and guest rooms called Hiša Marica.
The passion for hospitality and preserving community traditions continues today in Šmartno, carried on by Eva and Sebastjan with their family.
